Holiday Cottage to Let - Le Pommier

La Tranchardière, Calais du Desert, 53140 France

A rustic self-catering cottage with studio in rural France in the Department of Mayenne, just inside the Normandy-Maine Regional Natural Park

The Cottage, over 200 years old, is a converted traditional stone Normandy farm house in a cluster of rural buildings down a quiet country lane. The four bedrooms are generously sized, and furnished as three double bedded, and one twin bedded room. Guest beds can be put in any of the double bedded rooms.

The self-catering kitchen facilities include a gas stove, fridge, dishwasher and microwave. Heating and the hot water systems are electric, and there is a wood burning stove in the living room. There is no additional cost for the fuel.

The cottage is fully furnished and equipped to sleep up to 8 people.

Amenities include a powerful shower, a separate toilet and a washing machine downstairs, and bathroom with bath, toilet and basin upstairs.

The Garden

Le Pommier has its own gravel front yard (good for boules, which are provided), and can be lit at night. There is also a barbecue, and a picnic table which can be moved to the shade of the apple trees in our orchard.

Shopping

Couptrain, the nearest village, is 3 kilometres: a pleasant ½ hour's walk, or 5 minutes by car: it has a small food shop (for bread!) and a pub. There are towns with supermarkets about 8 miles away.

The Region

Mayenne is a lovely department, and La Tranchardière is just inside the Normandy-Maine Regional Natural Park, which is very wooded with lakes and rivers. There are plenty of birds, butterflies and wild flowers. The weather is hotter than England in the Summer, with beautiful Springs and Autumns. The Winters are colder, and in March there may be some snow. For the energetic there are excellent walks, and cycles are available. A golf course is 10 miles away at Bagnole-de-l'Orne, with other 9 hole golf courses within 20 miles. Fishing, tennis, swimming and horse riding are also available locally. Unspoilt old villages and towns provide a wealth of rustic and architectural treasures to inspire photographers and artists.

This is an ideal place to recharge your batteries in tranquil surroundings.
